Aug 31, 2010 Dear all, Maybe someone can tell me where I can download a demo-version of SDL Trados 2007 Suite Professional (not the freelance version). I bought a license at a special price (officially - long story) but received only the activation code.

That's no problem with Studio, which just added several functions after activation, but there seems to be a special Professional version for the Workbench. At least my existing freelance version did not just switch over to professional mode. Thanks in advance.

Good investment Jan 1, 2010 As Jerzy mentioned, MT Extract is an extra license you'll have to buy if you want it. Generally I would say that it's a worthwhile investment. It certainly is not perfect, and the bugs in my old version (I have a license for the latest one but haven't installed it yet) drive me crazy at times, but it's a reasonably efficient tool for extracting terms from monolingual or bilingual sources. I have seen better ones, but unless you are really good at designing workflows for the freeware/shareware tools, this is the best you'll do in its price range.

I can mine an existing TM with this and come up with a reasonable dictionary of a few hundred terms with context examples in a few hours. Including translations. It also provides a nice environment for screening terms at the start of a large project, much better than working with the awful MultiTerm interface which you'll have later after you export the results. There is a lot of potential for using this product to do better project work, market your services, improve quality, etc. Except for the rather condescending CCM campaign (I think that's what it was called) from SDL a year or two ago, the product has never really been promoted properly.

I gave up trying to explain the value of this tool to colleagues and clients years ago. I just show them by using it where I think it's appropriate, and the response is usually very positive (and often remunerative). There's a similar product from Heartsome here in Germany, which I intend to test when I get the opportunity, but the source formats it handles are more limited (TMX only I think). It is (or at least was) not always a separate licence. Jan 1, 2010 CCM Methodology Suite (SDL Trados 2007 Freelance + Multiterm Extract) came with an MT Extract licence. If this is the Freelance Suite you're referring to, then please read on. For with the MT license also came a problem, explained by the following passage from the SDL support website: QUOTE With the CCM Methodology product package, where SDL MultiTerm 2007 SP1 is installed on the same machine as SDL Trados 2007 SP2, or any system where SDL MultiTerm 2007 SP1 is installed alongside SDL Trados 2007 SP2, there is a problem with the license enforcement of SDL MultiTerm Extract.
